Wendy McMurdo RSA was born in Edinburgh where she initially studied painting at Edinburgh College of Art. In the late 80s she moved to New York and to the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York and on returning, began to work with photography, which she has done so ever since.

 

In 2015 she was awarded a PhD by publication for her work on the relationship between photography, the computer and the representation of childhood by the University of Westminster. In 2018, she was named as one of the Hundred Heroines, an award created by the Royal Photographic Society to showcase the best of global contemporary female photographic practice.
