My painting is a journey through a landscape of self discovery which starts in the real world, searching for the moment when thought stops and the paint itself opens up the minds eye to another hidden world.

 

Duncan F. Shanks RSA studied at Glasgow School of Art in the early 1950s. After graduating he became a part-time lecturer at GSA where he taught until 1979. He has exhibited widely in Scotland and the UK and is represented in public and private collections across the country, including Scottish Arts Council; Arts Council of Great Britain; Glasgow Art Gallery; Dundee Art Gallery; Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea; Lillie Art Gallery, Milngavie; Government Art Collection; Edinburgh City Art Centre; University of  Glasgow and University of Edinburgh.
