Before the Bose gift to the RSA from the Galloway family earlier this year, this was one of just two sculptures by the Indian Scottish sculptor in UK publicly accessible collections.
Both are in the collection of the National Museum of Wales and both were exhibited in the RSA Annual Exhibition of 1915. The Hunter shows the influence of Rodin, but in its subject it is unique in its merging of Bose’s Indian heritage with European aesthetics.
