Otto Gobey graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2021 where he studied sculpture. It was during this period that he began working in found wood and learning about historic timber processing and cabinet-making techniques. Since graduating, Otto has moved to West Wales where he has set up a studio with space to sculpt and paint.
Otto’s work is based on a study of the human-altered landscape; from earthworks of early humans and 16C timber buildings, to motorway embankments, quays, bridges, and sewage works. The works exhibited here are part of Otto’s ongoing slow and inaccurate documentation of everyday structures and objects both domestic and industrial. Some sculptures hint at many possible uses and inspirations, while others are simply imagined examples of recognisable forms.
