I am a Scottish artist based in Aberdeen, having graduated from Gray’s School of Art in 2023.
During my degree show I accumulated awards for my work, including a VAS Graduate Showcase nomination, of which I am a finalist, and the ARKADE exhibition award at the Anatomy Rooms in Aberdeen.
I make my art personal because it means I’m invested – I like to be playful when I’m creating things, and I don’t want to make something I don’t enjoy. In the same spirit, magpies influence my working habits and thoughts often – they’re mischievous, fun, spontaneous, and their attention is never taken for long.
Historical and cultural iconography also feature in my art or provide context, especially Scottish folklore, which has a special place in my heart. I love to deconstruct and rebuild tales like the Shetland Wulver and the Boobrie to create my own narratives and contexts for my pieces.
This composition reimagines the tale The Battle of The Birds, which first caught my attention as I couldn’t help but imagine the tiny wren so determined to lift the thresher and help the farmer with his harvest.
