Frankie Ashworth is a painter living and working in Glasgow. In 2023 he graduated with honours in painting and printmaking from the Glasgow School of Art.

My practice is rooted in using both the image and the materiality of the work to generate a sense of organic emotional resonance. This is done through an awareness of how elements relating to its physical presence, such as scale, shape, or mediums can be adjusted dramatically in order to deliver intent.

In the works The woodlands feel like a ghost town, and Things will get better, tenement window patterns are painted on top of arrangements of tiles. The materials most used are oils with glazing medium, representative of ceramic surfaces. The tiles themselves were collected on a bus with a suitcase from strangers on Gumtree and Facebook, feeding the intent of this work.

The window pattern, isolated from its original context, acts as the only representation of space within this series. It is an abstracted representation of the depression, isolation and the hope of what have been a difficult few months for me in the build up to this show.
