I am Gray’s School of Art 2023 graduate and, for my degree show, was awarded with an Aberdeen Artist Society Student Drawing Prize and Membership award, James Smith Bequest award, and was a shortlisted artist for the Visual Arts Scotland Graduate Showcase.
Currently, I am interested in the aesthetic of children’s mechanical toys and dated technology. My desire for producing work comes from engaging with small communities and attempting to understand the intricacies in their ways of living. Finding the fun in everyday life is the primary goal when I make work, therefore I follow processes of one-to-one interviews to better understand the people who make up a community.
Inspired by my time living and working on the Isle of Arran, my current projects are the fictitious imaginings of robots and technology which reflect the specific needs of island life. From hill walkers to small shop owners, my imagined robotic models are designed to cater to the various communities on Arran. These rural robots may not be real, but I know a few islanders who wish they were.
