Billy Brown was born in 1963 in Glasgow and graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2023 with a BA (Hon.) in Sculpture. Billy undertook a residency in the Isle of Skye in 2019.
As a natural hoarder who relishes collections and gathering objects to use in my art practice, I re-adapt discarded items into sculptures. This led me to focus on sustainable art and looking for a material that did not ‘cost the earth’. I researched the use of industrial hemp and the possibilities of how it could be used in a sculptural context. Breathing Space integrates two of my passions: using sustainable materials and incorporating the hutting community to my exhibit. This is a small collection of huts to represent a Scottish hutting community.
