Berti McColl is a Scottish artist living and working in East Lothian, Scotland. He graduated with a B.A (Hons) in Painting from Edinburgh College of Art in 2023. Working primarily in acrylic paint and pen, his work focuses on his observations and experiences, and presents his views in a satirical, surreal manner.
Having to spend a lot of time commuting to and from Edinburgh for my previous job I spent a lot of time on and waiting for buses. I would often spend several hours a day either standing on the street or sitting on a bus, observing those around me. It is these observations I started depicting through painting as a cathartic outlet for the frustration of a long and tedious commute. I use bright acrylic paints and markers to highlight and convey to the viewer the sensory overload I often experienced travelling around Edinburgh and the streets of East Lothian.
