The choir first rehearsed in January of this year, and since then have been working together to sing as one and use the rehearsals as social gatherings. Nothing is too serious and there is no need for perfect pitch. Arguably, the best songs to sing as a group are full of euphoric harmonies and yearnful emotions - the theatricality perfectly fills a room as big as this. There is support to be found in the lyrics sung; in standing next to one another and singing, the choir provides safety in numbers, capturing each singer’s voice in whatever they feel in that moment. Things can feel much truer when a whole choir is telling you so.
The choir was organised by Amy Strzoda who grew up on the edge of London and graduated in 2022. She was awarded the Bram Stoker Award at the Glasgow School of Art’s Degree Show and is a part of Hospitalfield’s 2023 graduate programme.
