Kyle Mac Connell is a multi-disciplinary artist, currently in practice in Edinburgh. Having previously gained a degree in music, he graduated in architecture from Glasgow School of Art in 2022. Finding inspiration from the potential theatricality and the phenomenology of architecture, his work explores the similarities, intersections and challenges both disciplines face when creating.
Mac Connell’s project Audiologic Measurement of Meteorology explores the primitive idea of a building providing shelter from the elements in a context of increasing climatic instability. As weather conditions slowly and steadily become more severe, the built environment occupies a position as a malevolent benefactor, both a space of solace and comfort, as well as contributor. By creating architecture that is stimulated by the elements, the project looks to create a space that is interconnected with our environment, reacting and responding to the conditions it itself contributes to.
