Charlotte Maishman graduated in fine art and specialises in large formulaic sculptures in porcelain, metal and light. Anchored by the poetics of space, her use of cross-cultural symbolism and choice of materials highlight the duality in human experience.
Having graduated in fine art and philosophy, Guendalina Rota questions modern values and priorities by offering an alternative point of view, with a nod to phenomenology, suggesting that our ancestral relationship with nature could be the key.
Charlotte and Guendalina found a common language through the harmonious contrasts of materials and mediums. Each offering a counterblance to the other, the pair came together to create work which earned them the prestigious RSA Barns-Graham Travel Award in 2022.
Forming a bond through memory and primal experience, the pair travelled together to their respective homes, embarking on a journey of universal connection. Through Devon’s coastal caves in England to the Ligurian Grotte in Italy, they found instinctual awakening.
This installation captures the essence of expansive and intricate formations which stand as silent witnesses to the passage of time, and reflect on the traces humans leave within them.
