Elected HRSA: 11 February 1920

Phoebe Anna Moss was born at Kilternan near Dublin but spent her life shortly after her marriage in 1873 working and living in Edinburgh.

In Dublin, she received art training under the National South Kensington scheme with an emphasis on sound and draughtsmanship based on acute observation. Whilst raising her children, she produced watercolours and embroidered linen whilst also illustrating the academic papers written by her husband.

In 1884 she secured her first major commission, the decoration of the Mortuary Chapel in the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh. Following this she was commissioned for the Song School of the Cathedral Church of St Mary in Palmerston Place and the interior decorative scheme for the Catholic Apostolic Church.

She was elected ARSA in 1919, following two unsuccessful proposals for election in 1900 and 1901.
