Agnes Roberts is a graduate from the Edinburgh College of Art. She primarily uses oil paint to investigate ideas of memory, nostalgia, and heartache, using a mixture of portraiture, landscape, pop culture references, and details from everyday life. Roberts collages and captures the melancholic elapse of time in the 21st century world of excess imagery, in an endeavour to relive and retain past experiences. She observes the complicated relationship that we have developed with nature. Her paintings of flowers in beer bottles, bright lights of raves in the woods and oil rigs that sit like floating cities on the sea show how this often-destructive relationship has become so integral to the moments of her own life, those which she is trying so hard to hold on to. Roberts hopes that viewers will be able to project their own experiences onto these visions of ordinary life that, although individual to her, capture the angst and the joy typically found within modern living.
