Lewis Cavinue notices the world through performance art. A graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (BA Fine Art), he now serves on the committee of Generator Projects, a long-standing artist run initiative in Dundee.
Highlighting humour in often overlooked everyday situations, he uses performance as a tool to question societal practices. Inspired by ordinary acts, he recontextualises metaphors into art, blending visual absurdity with critical reflection. His performances thrive in the space where art meets life; where exaggerated actions and societal expectations create a complex interplay that invites you to engage with, and reflect upon, the familiar.
In his latest work, ‘Mile’, he embodies the metaphor “Walk a mile in someone else’s shoes”. Documented over a durational live performance, Cavinue walked with 6 separate participants in their shoes for a mile each, using humour to form a connection with themes of empathy and shared experiences of life after graduating art school.
