R.L. Taylor is an artist from Edinburgh who currently works in painting and installation.
His practice is informed by an interest in Christianity, conspiracy, mythological beings, limitations to escapism and ritualistic performance versus spectatorship.
These works are part of a developing project named “Emotional Terrorist Forecast”, which explores coded behaviours of different Christian denominations. Here, golf is seen as the primary Protestant-coded sport. Boasting an undercurrent of earned status and a spirit of stoic, efficient politeness, golf courses have long been synonymous with potential class mobility, where etiquette often takes priority over display of sporting skill.
Taylor’s work often depicts varying amalgamations of different life forms, finding Christian morality in a contemporary setting, where divine intervention becomes absurdist happenstance, aiming to create worlds in which these subjects could possibly exist.
