Bethany Reid graduated with first-class honours in Contemporary Art Practice (Sculpture) from Gray’s School of Art in 2024. Her degree show earned her the prestigious Gray’s School of Art Socially and Environmentally Engaged Creative Award, and she has since been recognised with the New Graduate award by the Society of Scottish Artists (SSA). Her work has been exhibited in the SSA 126th Annual Exhibition and supported by Creative Scotland’s Open Fund and Aberdeenshire VACMA funding awards. Bethany is currently the Graduate in Residence at Gray’s School of Art, contributing to undergraduate Fine Art education.

Bethany’s artistic practice explores the complexities of human-animal relationships, addressing contemporary societal issues concerning non-human animals. She employs recycled materials to craft evocative animal forms, often with a strong educational focus, aiming to spark meaningful dialogue.

Her work “When You’re Big” investigates how children perceive meat production, juxtaposing an innocent, childlike perspective with the broader awareness of adulthood. The pieces combine reimagined sculptures from her 2024 degree show with newly created works developed for the RSA New Contemporaries exhibition. Bethany’s work invites viewers to reflect on our connections to the animal world and the ethical questions these relationships pose.
