I am a Glaswegian artist who recently graduated from The Glasgow School of Art. As an arts practitioner I value the importance of expression, and I notice the lack thereof in day-to-day interactions. My work aims to find the connections between people through the process of play, exploring this through the discovery of new communicative forms.
My practice specialises in the creation of sound devices, the manifestation of space and the development of inclusive environments. The works that I make seek a relationship with the viewer to be activated, often inviting the interaction of a couple or a group to create shared experiences away from reality. The sound devices I create are tactile and exhibited alongside multichannel live electronics: I am interested in illustrating sound’s capability to be harnessed, and observing it as it ripples out of our control.
“Control Room” is the manifestation of a childhood memory. The installation invites you to explore your relationship to sound: playing with theatrics, stage presence and in-direct communication. Contact microphones are used to capture physical interaction with the objects in the space, allowing the viewer to equally hear and feel, and establishing sound as a tactile material that holds memory.
