Dennis Buchan RSA's work fused the Scottish colourist tradition with more modern, abstract expressionism and pop art. His works took inspiration from landscapes and seascapes, using everyday objects to create bold juxtapositions of form and colour.
Buchan was born in 1937 in Arbroath and studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee.
Dennis Buchan RSA: They are about living – emotional responses to environments and situations, always more romantic in stimulus than intellectual. Colour relationships, inspired by music, movement and change of space all have their place in the development of the pictorial image…They are not stories, but evocative manifestations – they are about living and reacting.
