Thomas Clark ARSA 1820-1876

Mr. Thomas Clark, A.R.S.A., died on 7th October. Previous to his election into the Academy in 1866, he had been well known as a skilful landscape painter, and although habitually repressed in the prosecution of his art by infirm health, Mr. Clark, through his delight in nature and conscientious study of its details, was enabled to produce many works of real merit and attractiveness.

Whilst by no means insensible to the grander scenery of our country, he felt himself most at home in dealing with its simpler aspects—the Highland stream or loch-side -and these he represented in a truthful and pleasing manner. By all who knew him he was esteemed, and will be remembered, as a man of genuine worth.
