Elected ARSA: 18 March 1931

William James Walker Todd was born in Glasgow in 1884. On leaving Fettes College he received his initial training in art in the old School of Art on the Mound and was awarded a Scottish National Art Survey Studentship in 1905 and a Royal Institute Travelling Scholarship the following year.

 

In 1909 he started a business as an Architect and later became a partner of Mr Dick Peddie. In this capacity, he designed many important buildings including Merchiston Castle School, The Royal Bank of Scotland building on Hope Street and the County Buildings at Haddington.

 

He served in France during the First World War with the 8th Royal Scots as a Captain. He had a prominent association with the Royal Scots Club and was a member of the Scottish Arts Club.

He was elected ARSA in 1931.
