Elected ARSA: 9 November 1859
John Crawford Wintour ARSA was born in Edinburgh in 1825 to parents William Wintour and Margaret Crawford. Wintour exhibited a talent for drawing at an early age, entering the Trustees’ Academy under Sir William Allan. Here he flourished, producing many works in rapid succession bringing him to notice. He contributed numerously to the RSA Annual Exhibitions and to this day his name remains firmly on the role of Scottish Landscape Painters.
He was elected ARSA on the 9th of November 1859.
