Wilson had a great admiration for Germany and its culture. He visited bavaria in 1928 and in 1929 exhibited two engraved views of the walled town of Rothenburg ob ter Tauber. Amongst the blank postcards which he collected on this trip is one showing a very similar view of this gateway.
