It is with greatest sorrow that the Royal Scottish Academy note the death of His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh today the 9th April 2021. HRH Prince Philip was elected an Honorary Member of the Academy in 1963 and was our longest serving Honorary Member in the 195th year history of the RSA. He was also Patron of the Friends of the RSA (now amalgamated under the RSA banner).
He visited the RSA on several of occasions and was an enthusiastic purchaser of work from the annual exhibition. His last visit was in 2011 for the 25th Anniversary of the Friends of the RSA.
He will be sorely missed by us all, for his patronage of the contemporary arts in Scotland through his tremendous support of the Royal Scottish Academy over the past 58 years.
We send our deepest condolences to her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second and the Royal Family at this most distressing time.
