"I am so pleased that my photography has been given an award. I took the photograph when I was visiting the concentration camps in Poland recently. I was feeling quite sad hearing a lot of the horrible stories of what it was like living there. There would have been hundreds of people in those buildings in the dark and cold with no food. When I was standing there it felt really bright and clean and just seemed the opposite. I wanted to remember this.

I wasn’t sure if I should take photographs when I visited, but this competition lets lots of people see the photograph and also know what it means. So I think it was right to take it."
