Victoria Clare Bernie began her residency, Provenance, which was funded by the RSA Friends, in the RSA Collections in September 2019. Working with Collections Curator Sandy Wood and Documentations Officer Robin Rodger she set out to investigate the idea of origins by mining the Collections: the origins of landscape art, the origins of art training and her own origins as an artist trained in Scotland whose work centres on the landscapes of Scotland. The archive in Granton is an extraordinary collection of paintings and drawings, reference books and letters, sculptures, maquettes, folios of prints and facsimiles of the great collections of continental Europe. It is a tool and a resource for artists that remains valid to the present day. This online talk will trace some of the breadcrumb trails Sandy and Robin laid and Victoria followed.
