We are pleased to announce this year’s RSA William Gillies Lecture, which will focus on the life and work of the acclaimed artist himself. The lecture coincides with our Gillies exhibition tour currently travelling around Scotland and is rescheduled after its unfortunate cancellation in January 2024.
We’ll be welcoming Sandy Wood, Alexander Moffat RSA, Dr Joanna Soden HRSA and Andrew McPherson to the Academy, who will each present a series of short talks on the life and work of Sir William Gillies. This will be followed by a discussion chaired by Murdo Macdonald HRSA and inspired by the themes explored in Andrew McPherson publication, William Gillies: Modernism and Nation in British Art.
The lecture will also celebrate the publication by Edinburgh University Press of Andrew’s full scholarly monograph on Gillies, which presents the entirety of his revelatory research and writing on the artist.
