In 1984 Keith Rand came, as a recent graduate, to work at the Scottish Sculpture Workshop in Aberdeenshire where he began to develop his sculptural approach to timber for which he is now internationally renowned. Paring away the wood until its tensile strength enables him to inter-connect sections, he creates surfaces that resonate with areas of marks and colour. His abstract sculptures are reminiscent of the grasses, plants and historic worked landscapes that inspire him, and detailed in his observational and working drawings. The sublime, sensitive quality of his work is perhaps why he has been awarded many commissions for hospitals, rural and urban landscapes and why they grace the domestic interiors of many private collectors.
Keith Rand now lives and works in Wiltshire.
