PRESENTING SCOTLAND'S FINEST NEW ARTISTS & ARCHITECTS

RSA New Contemporaries is a new and curated annual exhibition which focuses on the finest emerging artists & architects in Scotland. This exciting new show has evolved out of the long standing and much anticipated RSA Annual Student Exhibition which was first held at the RSA in 1976 and marks our commitment presenting and supporting the best contemporary art in Scotland.

It features nearly 60 graduates selected from the 2008 Degree shows by a team of RSA Members, lead by Professor Will Maclean RSA, and representatives of the six schools of Architecture and five main colleges of art in Scotland in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen and Elgin (Moray College of Art) which should be given special note as this is their first year of participation.

Instead of exhibiting solo works in isolation, the revamped exhibition held in all 12 of the magnificent RSA Galleries, gives each artist the opportunity to showcase a selection of new work providing a more comprehensive representation and includes painting, sculpture, film making, photography, printmaking, architecture and installation.

We envisaged that the development of this exhibition will be one of the most important initiatives for emerging artists in Scotland each year, enabling a 'first exhibition' opportunity for some 60+ emergent artists annually. The exhibition will be an unique opportunity to see the best of Scotland's emerging talent under one roof. Colin Greenslade, RSA Programme Director.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a full colour publication. Many works will be available for purchase. The RSA is part of the Own Art scheme, offering interest-free credit for people to buy contemporary art and craft. For further details visit www.scottisharts.org.uk

Media Partner: The Skinny
THE SKINNY began in autumn 2005 with the aim of informing people about Scottish culture, to help people go out and make the most of the scene. A free, monthly cutting edge and forward thinking publication, we place culture as a priority and directly engage with the Scottish youth market.
The Skinny has a long tradition of first-rate art coverage, and has been the exclusive media partner of the internationally regarded Edinburgh Art Festival since 2007. The magazine consistently promotes the best local talent, the most exciting up-and-coming artists, and supports imaginative approaches to curation, meaning it has a dedicated readership with a strong sense of what The Skinny stands for.
The Skinny Showcase started in March 2007, highlighting many bright young stars of Scottish art, including Jock Mooney, Kate MacKay, Good Wives and Warriors, and Scott Laverie. With an outstanding record for picking artists prior to receiving wider acclaim, not least because influential tastemakers are looking to the Showcase for tips: David Lupton produced a video for the Horrors; and Kevin Harman's skip-art appeared in the Guardian within a week of appearing in The Skinny.
The Skinny is available Scotland wide, distributing 35,000 copies a month.
