The art of Ronald Forbes RSA forms a narrative around the way we see and understand the world.
On the recent publication of his book A Blind Man’s Dreams: The Paintings and Films of Ronald Forbes by Tom Normand, Forbes became aware of some gaps in his overall oeuvre. There was a period in the 1980s where he produced a range of paintings featuring a collage-formed figure searching for something undeclared among fragments of consumer items. These works were inspired by the Bruegel drawing of Elck, the Netherlandish version of Everyman, who figures centrally in a range of morality plays in various European cultures. This exhibition is an attempt to fill one of the missing links in the wide survey of Forbes’s work in A Blind Man’s Dreams.
