The RSA Annual Exhibition is the prestigious highlight of our year-round exhibition programme and represents our commitment to supporting excellence in the visual arts in Scotland. Available to view both entirely online and in the magnificent surroundings of the Playfair-designed galleries at the Royal Scottish Academy, the exhibition is the best opportunity to view and purchase works across the breadth of contemporary art in Scotland.
Now in its 198th year, the RSA Annual Exhibition provides a platform for contemporary painting, sculpture, film, printmaking, photography and installation, alongside work by some of the country’s leading architects. This year’s Convenor is Wendy McMurdo RSA, assisted by Deputy Convenor Jude Barber RSA (Elect).
The RSA Open Exhibitions of Art and Architecture figure centrally in the RSA Annual Exhibition. These open exhibition elements feature a diverse range of works thoughtfully selected from online submissions by artists and architects at all stages of their careers.
Complimenting this selection and alongside works from our Academicians, Convenor Wendy McMurdo has invited work from artists Claire Barclay, Helen de Main, Rae-Yen Song and Thomson & Craighead. Deputy Convenor Jude Barber has invited a selection of collaborative works from Architecture Fringe, -ism magazine and /other - the co-curators of A Fragile Correspondence, Scotland's contribution to the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale.
Memorial works by Delia Baillie RSA, Dennis Buchan RSA, Peter Collins RSA and John Byrne RSA will also be on display.
The RSA Annual Exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to purchase and collect artworks in a wide range of media and styles. We are a proud partner of the Own Art scheme, allowing you purchase artwork in 10 monthly interest-free instalments.
We are grateful to all our external award givers who support contemporary art and architecture in Scotland and would like to extend a special thank you to Bonhams for their sponsorship of our opening events.
