This January we are pleased to present an exhibition inspired by the landscape and natural elements of Orkney.

The exhibition will include a new body of work from the inaugural winner of the RSA MacRobert Art Award for Painting, Samantha Clark. This £20,000 award provides financial assistance for a committed painter whose circumstances have for whatever reason, made it difficult to focus upon and develop their artistic talent.

Based in Birsay, Orkney, Samantha describes her work as ‘a meditation on water and time, and a response to the natural environment of Orkney’. The award has supported Samantha in an intensive period of creative study of the waters in and around Orkney, exploring how painting can sensitively attend and respond to this challenge and vital element.

The exhibition will also feature work by Academicians who are based on, or have been inspired by Orkney, including Anne Beven RSA (Elect), Victoria Crowe RSA, Frances Pelly RSA, Barbara Rae RSA.
