Senior Award - First Prize Winner.
The artist: "It is an honour to have my efforts and artwork recognised by the RSA. To be chosen as a prize-winner from such a great number of candidates means so much to me and gives me confidence in my skills as a young artist. This artwork is one of a series created as part of my Advanced Higher art portfolio. I used watercolour paints to create this artwork. I enjoyed experimenting with different brush marks as I applied the paint to achieve this deep, moody look. In this piece - a still life of a sheep’s skull, I exaggerated the highlights and shadows, and used a limited colour palette to add to the dramatic and melancholy atmosphere that was presented by the morbid subject matter. I am delighted to be a prize-winner as I hope to go onto study art at university in the future."
