Senior Award - Third Prize Winner.
The artist: "This image was a part of a series I was shooting for my school coursework, which was celebrating the many emotions exhibited by us when we are partaking on a journey. This image specifically was celebrating the freedom of a journey. Inspired by the decisive moment photography of Bresson, the photo combines the movement of a bike with the “freedom” of the subject. It has a certain flair of candidness, partly due to the grain of the image, giving it a very grounded and real feel of liberation from mundanity. Being recognised by the RSA has been and is a great honour, as it has given me confirmation that these emotions captured can be related to or reflected upon, without the need for any further contextual explanation. Knowing that this photo can invoke a feeling or a response beyond the parameters of an academic environment is really humbling and has given me confidence in my photography."
