This proposal for a major new Filmhouse aims to place film on the same level as the other arts in Edinburgh by giving it a significant public home. It also proposes to regenerate the currently underused and largely unloved Festival Square. Six of the seven auditoria are underground thereby minimising the apparent footprint. Above ground are the foyer, an auditorium for special occasions ("the centre"), offices, restaurant, and roof top terrace bar/external cinema. The plan is currently with Edinburgh Council planning department.
