We’re thrilled to announce that our new RSA Collections online platform is now live. The platform provides online access to the database of artworks we hold in our collection, recognised as a Collection of National Significance to Scotland.
The new platform, designed with Surface Impression, gives audiences around the world the opportunity to discover our collections like never before. Users can search by keywords, filter results, and discover connections between artists and artworks, and their exhibition histories, subjects and sitters.
The site currently features over 750 artists, architects and creators, and the ‘My Collection’ function allows you to create your own collection which can be saved, emailed, printed or sent on to our collections team with an enquiry for more details.
Our collection currently includes over 9,000 artworks, which are complemented by a significant artistic archive and library. Over the last 10 years, we’ve undertaken a significant project to develop our database and digitise our collections. This process will continue, alongside our active collecting. We’re grateful to student interns from both St Andrews and Edinburgh Universities, who have supported this process over the past 2 years - Eunchae Lee, Marian Whalen, Caitlin Wareing-Oksanen, Farah Zhang, Izzy Eggert, and Gabriella Minin.
Our new RSA collections portal gives you the chance to embark on a virtual journey around Scottish art and architecture, through our rich and diverse collections. Like any big project, this website will develop over time, and we’d love to hear your feedback as you delve into the online collection.
As we approach our 200th anniversary in 2026, we’re delighted to be able to make our collection, which began in the early 19th century, accessible in our current digital age, and look forward to the exciting new possibilities this platform brings.
