Published by the Royal Scottish Academy, this volume looks at the work of architect Peter Barber, and was produced to accompany the 2025 Metzstein Discourse. It comprises an introduction by Gareth Fisher PRSA and a personal introduction by Richard Murphy RSA.
Peter Barber RA OBE founded his practice in London in 1989. He has, with an office of only five, single-handedly transformed the possibility of what social housing might be. Within Greater London he has built almost 50 projects, several of them addressing the issues of the single homeless. His work has won countless architectural awards. In various articles he has been described as “the modernist that traditionalists like”, “the go-to architect for social housing,”, “a militant architectural evangelist,” “a washing line warrior” and “one of the most original architects working today.”
