Elizabeth Blackadder was a collector of many things from simple utensils to wares of her travels. Sketchbooks such as this one offers an insight not only into her collections but also into her still-life sketches.
Elizabeth chose items to collect for many reasons, from their simplicity to their intricacy. This sketchbook includes sketches of several different items in her collection. Page 39 features sketches of animal skulls using a mixture of pencil, ink and watercolour to capture likeness. On Page 35, a still-life sketch of a necklace adds some colour and on page 11 sketches in varying stages or completeness show some of the inlayed brass boxes in her collection
