This sketchbook dates from the year before the breath-taking exhibition at Winchester Cathedral Into the Light, in which Rand’s contemporary sculptures were sited around the space creating a live dialogue in wood. Many of the sculptures that featured in the exhibition are considered in the sketchbook, including Senser, Rising, Monitor Pearwood and the Into the Light series.
Rand used the sketchbook to contemplate and plan his sculptures in the space. On page 26 of the sketchbook one of the Rising series is noted as appearing in the Epiphany Chapel, while Into the Light yellow is merely described, suggesting its title was only arrived at later.
