Benno Schotz

Sketchbook
Benno Schotz RSA, 1950s-1970s

Benno Schotz often took inspiration from forms in nature for his sculptures. In this sketchbook, Schotz focused on pebbles, stones, and tree branches that had interesting compositions and forms, noticing human figures within nature’s objects. Schotz would take the compositions and make slight alterations in his sketches to create human forms. He would often redraw the same form multiple times, until he felt he had something worthwhile.
