How did the experience affect you as an individual?
The scholarship was my first time working away from home alone, for such an extended period of time, and it was a real eye-opener to me as a way of researching and making. Since my time in Florence I have actively sought other such periods of working away, from Ireland to the Netherlands to China – I find such intensive and immersive working incredibly rewarding.
What was the impact on your practice?
My time in Florence taught me to be more ambitious with the scale of my projects, to think much bigger that I had been doing up to that point.
What would you say the long term impact has been on yourself and you work?
Long term, I think it allowed me to have more confidence in myself and my different processes of research and making. Everyone who goes to Florence as part of the scholarship does things slightly differently with very different outcomes and I think this is one of the most wonderful things about it.* denotes required fields
