How did the experience affect you as an individual?
The Kinross Scholarship offered me breathing space following my time studying at The Mackintosh School of Architecture, Glasgow School of Art, allowing me to carefully consider my next step and not to rush into an Architectural Practice. Easing the pressure of the question which everyone faces when the end point of University is approaching… ‘What next?’
What was the impact on your practice?
The time researching and subsequently travelling around Italy allowed me to develop my own ambitions and architectural interests, undertaken with a sense of artistic validity and financial security. The time traveling alongside two artists, who remain close friends, provided conversations, debate and the development of a body of work exploring the blurring of architectural and artistic disciplines, a key focus of my practice to date.
What would you say the long term impact has been on yourself and you work?
Undertaking the Kinross Scholarship provided me with the foundation for my particular investigation into an architectural discourse, and one which as a result I have been able to continue to develop to date, through self-driven research projects, as a practicing Architect and as a Studio Tutor at Edinburgh School of Architecture & Landscape Architecture.
