Agnes Brook-Sulman (b. 2000, London) is a practising artist who lives and works in London. She received her BA in painting at Edinburgh College of Art (2022) and a Foundation course at Kensington and Chelsea College (2019). Agnes’ works were chosen for Artpistol’s Breakout Artists with her work exhibiting at their Best of Scottish Art Schools Grad Show in Glasgow in 2022.

Agnes’ current practice leans more towards the spontaneous and intuitive than the premediated or planned, drawing on internal emotions. She is always looking to find the right combination of form, shape and colour, putting particular emphasis on the choice of colour and mark making gestures. The marks, lines and placing of paint is an external mapping of her internal thinking. There is an intuitive feel for the balance of a composition and a visceral correctness.

Her new exhibition pieces draw on this abstract language that tries to resolve a painting and a personal resistance to the need to react and explain everything. The works allow the viewer to feel without having to explain. In the works, Agnes aims to encourage the search for the elemental things that make for beauty and equilibrium.
