Yavor Nedelchev is a young and upcoming architect originally born in Bulgaria. After graduating from secondary school, he moved to Scotland in 2017 with the ambition to study architecture at the University of Dundee. In 2023, Yavor completed his Master of Architecture degree, graduating with First Class Honours and being awarded Best Final Year Student by the Dundee Institute of Architects. Furthermore, his final year thesis project was put forward by the University of Dundee in the annual Architecture Journal student competition as a RIBA Part II entry.

Since October 2023, Yavor has been working with London-based Studio Egret West, which is a team comprising a mix of urban designers, architects, landscape architects, graphic designers, model makers, and filmmakers. Since its creation in 2004, Studio Egret West has delivered some of the UK’s most exciting, high-quality placemaking projects through the symbiosis of memorable architecture, strategic urban design and ecology-driven landscape.

Yavor’s thesis project investigates how the abandoned industrial landscapes of North-Rhine Westphalia can be productively used to revitalise the deleterious university system through the formation of a ‘heterotopia’. This rapport, which is concurrently unconventional and contradicting, re-introduces a university system that restores its principal ambition of delivering uncommodified knowledge.
