Shannon Leslie was born in Shetland, raised in a small chalet in Scousburgh. She studied at Shetland UHI Lerwick and graduated with a First Class Honours in Fine Art.

Shannon’s practice is rooted in the morbid and uncompromising reality of nature, mingled with her own personal experiences and attachments. She utilises drawing and sculpture to preserve memories from the land around her. Her exhibited work portrays an intimate world where the viewer is invited to encounter feelings of loss and nostalgia. Spiritual incantations and malformed beings resonate a solemn energy, the trapdoor being the origin wherein darker thoughts permeate and fester.

She is currently researching genetic mutation with relation to the effects of radiation on livestock and Shetland’s post-Chernobyl aftermath.
