Marcus Myles was born in Dundee and studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design. He graduated with a First Class MArch degree in 2022.

My work focuses on a thoughtful, sustainable and refined architecture, deeply engaged by a sensitivity to context and place, most notably through the lens of architectural retrofit, weaving contemporary design within the sensitivity of an existing building’s fabric.

I have a purist approach to design, stripping buildings and spaces down to their essential elements to create environments of tranquillity and clarity through the balance of space and light. I believe in crafting experiences, from the spatial to the tactile, mutually informed by a consideration of materiality and craft. My design philosophy extends beyond architecture to every aspect of my workings; to include graphic, furniture and object design.

Mitigating the Death of the Multi

This project explores a better alternative to demolition of the Scottish “multi” housing typology, through the vehicle of an architectural retrofit intervention into Dundee’s Iconic Hilltown Multis. This body of work challenges the stigma associated with the high-rise typology, returning to the vertical neighbourhood principles surrounding its inception, to form a recipe for revival, leading to an environmental and socially sustainable typology.
